On the Fleur-de-lis Trail

L'Ardoise is one of several small Acadian fishing villages strung along the southern coast of Cape Breton on the Fleur-de-lis Trail. The name means "the slate" — a reference to the local rock — and the village's roots go back to the late 1700s.

There's a small beach, a wharf, and a handful of homes facing the Atlantic. It's the kind of place to stop for half an hour on a coastal drive.
