Le Buttereau Trail – Cape Breton Highlands National Park

This 1.6 km loop trail winds through spruce forest, abandoned pasture fields and Acadian foundation ruins on a small hill overlooking the Chéticamp River and Gulf of St. Lawrence. Plaques mark former homesteads, and wildflowers now dominate the once-tilled land. The easy interpretive trail takes 30-45 minutes; the trailhead is on the Cabot Trail opposite Grande Falaise picnic area. You can extend your hike by connecting to Chemin du Buttereau Trail for an additional 4.6 km. A park pass is required; check visitor centres in Chéticamp or Ingonish for passes and trail maps.
